Illuminate Performing Arts Policies
General Studio Class Policies
Placement and Evaluation: Class placement for students is at the discretion of the faculty and the artistic director.
Attendance: Class attendance is vital. Any missed classes can be made up by the student in a lower level class within 30 days. Should the class be canceled by the teacher for any reason, make-up classes will be rescheduled. No credit adjustment for missed classes. Should a student be sick or unable to attend classes for any reason, they need to contact the office. Please leave a voicemail or email should no one be able to take the call. Should a student be more than ten minutes late to a class, they may not be able to physically participate, but could be asked to sit in a designated area to observe. Excessive absences or tardiness can severely hamper a student’s progress; poor attendance may force a student to be placed in a lower level, repeat a level, and/or have limited participation in any performance.
Withdrawal: Any request for withdrawal from a class or the studio must be made 30 days in advance. No refunds will be given without prior notification.
Parent Observation: Observations are not permitted except on announced observation times. All classes at Illuminate PA are designed to create a healthy, comfortable learning environment. Guests can be distracting to students and may place undue pressure on the student. If a parent has any questions about their student’s training, the instructor or director would be happy to meet with them at a mutually agreeable time.
Studio Announcements: Important announcements will be placed on the studio website, social media and studio voicemail or email. Illuminate PA will follow Shelby county inclement weather alerts.
Recitals: Live stage performance is as much a part of the training process as is the classroom training. Students in most classes are expected to participate in the studio performances, with the exception of non-performance classes. If there is a conflict of dates, the parent is responsible to notify the instructor and Illuminate PA in writing as soon as possible, as this will affect the choreography and costuming. All accounts must be current by the recital.
Video/Photography Release: Illuminate PA may, from time to time, use students’ photographs in advertising and promoting the studio. Upon agreement of this form, the parent agrees to give Illuminate PA permission to use video and photos of the student for studio purposes only.
Dress Code: Each class has a specific dress code. It is expected that the student will follow the dress code. Male students are expected to wear proper undergarments beneath their clothing, such as compression shorts, to ensure support and comfort during physical activity. Female students are expected to wear a leotard beneath their clothing in all dance classes. Some classes may require specific colors, styles, or items which are at the discretion of the instructor and will be communicated with you at the beginning of the studio year. Upon registration, the parent will be made aware of the specific outfit that is required for that class. The studio will not stock clothing of any kind. There are several online and local sources for dancewear. A professional appearance should be maintained throughout all levels of the studio.
Behavior: Professional behavior should be expected of all students. Students and family members may only be in designated studio classrooms or waiting spaces and may not wander around the building. If a student or family member needs to access a different space, they must be escorted by a teacher. Every space is to be treated with respect and left in better condition than it was found.
Supervision of siblings by an adult must be provided at all times. No smoking is permitted inside the studio or on the grounds. Illuminate and Memphis Tabernacle are not responsible for lost or stolen property. It is advisable not to bring valuables to class.
